The Godley Hotel offers country-style accommodation in the alpine village of Lake Tekapo on the South Island. The hotel is centrally located in the village with views of the lake and mountains. It is an 5-minute walk to the lake with its famous turquoise waters and the Church of the Good Shepherd.

There are 58 rooms, all of which have a smart TV, small fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and heating. Guests can enjoy the onsite Jack Rabbit Café with views of Lake Tekapo. Guests can relax in the stylish and modern lounge with free, unlimited WIFI.

Lake Tekapo is famous for stargazing as the village is located in the heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. The night skies are exceptionally clear and pure, perfect for a stargazing tour or astrophotography. Other outdoor activities include walking, cycling, horse riding, scenic flights, and 4WD tours. Tekapo Springs is a 5-minute drive from the Godley Hotel, offering hot pools, day spa, steam and sauna, ice skating and snowtubing in winter, and waterslide in summer. The Godley Hotel is an ideal base for skiing and snowboarding as Roundhill Ski Area is just a 40-minute drive.

The Godley Hotel is a 3-hour drive from Christchurch or Queenstown, and a scenic 1-hour drive to Aoraki/Mt Cook.

A standard Hotel room in a very standard hotel.

The location was fine - right near the main centre of town. The bathroom was excellent - seemed like it was from another (better) hotel.

The room was hot - and yet there is no air-conditioning. No lift (quite a hike up the stairs with a heavy case).

We enjoyed the adventure to star gaze unguided and the view of Aoraki. Mt St John was worth our time

The location was good right close to the lake but I gathered from the website that we would be in an elevated position. Clean and tidy and accessible for star gazing

The pools at the end of the road were a disappointment

Very Good

The property is pretty new, the room was spacious and the lake/Mountain view was just great. The restaurant provides a nice breakfast

Its really disappointing that this hotel lets you pay a penalty fee it you use your credit card for the room charge. There is no information on their Booking.com page.

Great location for Lake Takepo

The location was good. View from our room on the upper floor was very good, looking onto Lake Takepo and the Church is the Good Shepherd. Close to town and restaurants. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Easy parking outside room.

The balcony was a shared walkway arrangement and as we were right at the end, our view was marred by a brick wall over some of the view. The furniture was a little basic and no bedside table on one side. The swimming pool was off line due to a water issue and the cafe closes at 3pm.

Very nice

Nice hotel. Rooms are in blocks. We had top floor (two levels) in block at the back. This afforded us a lovely view of the beautiful scenery of the lake & Church. Excellent range of teas, coffees etc. There was a balcony where we could admire the view. Lots of varied cuisine eateries right by hotel.

Toilet kept running after full flush, until you flushed it again. If we'd not been in the room we were, view wouldn't have been as good - would have been either other block of rooms or road. Balcony was along whole floor, not individual. No-one did, but guess that could mean people could be potentially walking along outside your room. Flower pot by our door on balcony had been used extensively as an ashtray, and not emptied when room was serviced. Bar and restaurant closed about 16:00.

Great location with lake views. Cafe attached is great. Staff are super friendly and helpful. We got the standard room, would have paid more to upgrade knowing they were that rundown. Clean but dated and worn.

The location was fantastic with a superb lake view with the church.

The bath/shower was difficult to get in and out of, it was a bit high. But we know you are renovating so hopefully this will be better next time.

Wonderful views and cleanliness was great. Staff were fantastic. The room was a bit dated.

I liked the view from our room. The staff both on checkout and check in were wonderful and very kind. The room was very clean, tidy and well presented.

The room facilities were a bit old and may need updated. Paint was peeling in parts of the room and it was a bit old looking, may need just a wee update.

What was the highlight of The Godley Hotel

Nice enough for a nights stay travelling through the South Island.

Great unobstructed view of Lake Tekapo and worth paying the little extra for the view rather than rooms facing the opposite direction. The small township is only a stones throw away. Lake front is also a small walk from rooms.

On site restaurant & bar was not open when we arrived on a Sunday.
